 Description
An Inquiry into Living isn’t so much a linear tale of a man’s adventure through North America. It isn’t really a message about overcoming hardship. It’s not about a man alone, surviving in nature. The book doesn’t describe a man’s search for God, justice or meaning in the world. And while it is a true story, it isn’t necessarily written to entertain, guide or be easy to read. It isn’t so much meant to fit into or support, nor dismiss any kind of spirituality, method, way or ideology. Yet, the book may do and be all of these things.

An Inquiry into Living is a playful, curious venture about a man who stumbles into the end of thought and could come up with nothing else to do but walk, talk, and inquire homeless and mostly penniless, along his way to the north and west from Asheville, NC into Wisconsin. The man then floats down the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers to the south and continues his travels. As a meeting of science and silence, nature and philosophy, society and spirit, the book is a collection of true stories, descriptions and writings from these initial walks and river trips. The author also tells of inward explorations that span a course of over two and a half years and 3,500 miles, living on the roads and rivers of America, Mexico and Beyond.
