Description

Twilight of the Meddlers (2009) is a comical libertarian fantasy. The Four Horsemen respond to the 2008 election by engaging in a series of identity theft scams. Horseman Peter Trevaskis sees no point in carrying on as a law-abiding chump when everyone else is on the take or freeloading off the taxpayers. The Horsemen travel about from scam to scam and meet trouble from myriad sources: Facebook  friends, a Target shopper, Dostoyevsky passages, Steve Miller song lyrics, Vermont Teddy Bears, a political science professor, all-natural male enhancement pills, jealous husbands, patriotic neighbors, a mysterious stew, a Ukrainian spy, a bust of Elvis, and even one or two pricks of conscience. Careening through the first hundred days of the Obama Presidency, the Horsemen leave baffled women, puzzled professors, nonplussed classmates, and stuffed commodes in their wake.

Lust for Loot/ (2005, revised 2009) features more capers than a plate of smoked salmon. Having supped full of their empty corporate careers, the Four Horsemen embark on an insurance fraud scheme in order to see the world in style. While Rosey Grenville toils away at his 700-year update of Dante’s Inferno, Billy Wayne tries to keep Fred Schiller under control and the scheme from unraveling. Written in the spirit of a reincarnated P.G. Wodehouse who was dropped on his head once or twice on the way back to earth, Lust for Loot is aptly described as the most frivolous yarn since Jimmy Carter’s memoirs.

Macbill (1998) is a brief tribute in iambic pentameter to that most seminal of political events, the Clinton-Lewinsky affair.

*R.A. Droite* cowers behind a nom de plume so his indispensable service as spiritual adviser and community organizer is not compromised. When he’s not coping with the gout, Mr. Droite collects faux Fabergé eggs or enjoys a quiet game of Chutes and Ladders.
